I’m a Community Independent and I'm running to be your voice on the City of Moreton Bay Council for Division 11.

These priorities are based on hundreds of submissions to my community survey and countless conversations with residents and community organisations. I look forward to talking to you about your priorities.

Listening & Communication

I will be accountable and accessible by:

  • Holding frequent mobile offices across the Division
  • Hosting community roundtables and town hall meetings, timed and located to suit working families
  • Being available on social media
  • Forming a youth advisory committee
  • Working with our progress and residents associations, community groups, and volunteers
  • Clearly communicating budgeting decision

Planning & Infrastructure

I will focus on ensuring developments protect the character of our region, our bushland and our lifestyles, ensuring infrastructure keeps up with development. That adequate transport and local employment is planned concurrently with future housing developments.

I'll push for:

Congestion Busting Infrastructure Upgrades

  • Narangba level crossing
  • Young and Oakey Flat Roads, Narangba (already committed in council budget)
  • O'Mara Road, Narangba (already committed in council budget)
  • Roundabout upgrade at New Settlement, Rifle Range and Oakey Flat Road

Active and Public Transport

  • Local bus connections for Samford, Dayboro and Narangba
  • Road maintenance and clear road shoulders
  • Upgraded foot and bike paths to better serve the diverse mobility needs of our community
  • Council action such as mobile CCTV cameras for dangerous motorised scooters and bikes

Environmental Protection

  • Support for animal carers, bush care and creek care organisations
  • Scrutiny of development applications to ensure high quality habitat is protected
  • Council investment in reducing invasive weeds and feral animals, especially on council land
  • More detailed climate action and resilience planning

Affordable Housing Options

I’ll push for changes to planning laws to support more affordable and sustainable housing that protects the character of our region, and I’ll support real housing solutions for people at risk or experiencing homelessness

Housing priorities:

  • Affordable medium density housing around transport corridors to take pressure off infrastructure,
  • More community facilities as part of development applications for local jobs and amenity,
  • Allowing sustainable community developments in rural residential areas,
  • More retirement housing options within our communities,
  • Secondary dwelling reforms to support more affordable rentals and older residents aging in place,
  • Council action to support more crisis accomodation with wrap around support for people experiencing homelessness, along with advocacy to State and Federal Governments.

Local Jobs & Opportunities

Grow good jobs close to home by supporting commercial precincts, local entrepreneurs and small businesses to build a diverse local economy.

Supporting:

  • Small business and chamber of commerce, training and networks
  • Scrutiny on development applications to ensure local commercial opportunities are actually built in growth areas while the character of our towns and villages are maintained
  • Local food and agricultural industry development, through diversification, local procurement, training and events
  • A youth advisory committee to build skills and identify opportunities for young people close to home.
  • Continued healthy active programs which support local businesses as well as community wellbeing

Community events, facilities & resilience

We are so lucky to live in this region. Our community events and facilities help build the fabric of our communities and are supported by incredible volunteers. I will support our community organisations and sport facilities to navigate Council processes and get the best for our communities.

Including:

  • Supporting emergency services and volunteer organisations to be prepared for natural disaster responses, especially in our most vulnerable mountain communities
  • Consulting with our volunteer community and sporting groups to ensure they can access top quality facilities
  • Standing with the community to find sensible solutions to support beloved volunteer run community events like Dayboro Day, Art with Altitude and Christmas on Main Street
  • Ensuring our communities have adequate and accessible public toilet facilities
  • Bringing greater transparency and real community consultation to build thriving community facilities at Old Petrie Town, Samford Parklands and on other council land
