Standing up for better roads and transport in Dickson

Community Independent candidate for Dickson Ellie Smith has today pledged to work for better roads and public transport for motorists and people in Dickson.

About 75 percent of people travelling to work from Dickson use a car.

While the region was also called out last year as one of the most under-served by public transport for any capital city in Australia.*

Community Independent candidate for Dickson Ellie Smith said:

“It’s clear that people in Dickson need a stronger advocate for better roads and transport solutions.

Our roads and transport network is inadequate. It’s not working well.

“Investment in roads and public transport in Dickson is not keeping up with our growing population.

“Too many people are being forced into their cars to go to work or study because they do not have other options.

“It’s adding to petrol costs making our quality of life worse. We are right in the middle of one of Australia’s biggest public transport black holes.

“We’re lacking rapid bus networks and corridors to move people to where they need to be.

“And I’m being told by active transport users that they feel left out of road and transport planning in the area.

“It took 10 years for work to start on the Youngs Crossing Bridge - this is the sort of congestion easing project that should have been completed years ago.”

As the Member for Dickson Ellie Smith would immediately:

  • Audit all state and local transport strategies to understand what projects should be urgently prioritised.
  • Meet with Moreton Bay Council and the QLD Department of Transport and Main Roads to advocate for better planning, coordination and action on roads and public transport priorities; and
  • Meet with Infrastructure Australia to understand how the Hills District and Brisbane’s north could be prioritised for Federal road and public transport funding.

Ellie Smith said:

“Dickson needs a stronger voice for better roads and transport solutions.

“All my life I have been a strong advocate for the community to fix problems and improve quality of life.

“I will not stop working to get better roads, more public transport, and active transport solutions in Dickson.”
