Supporting growing number of solar homes and electric vehicle owners in Dickson

Community Independent Candidate for Dickson Ellie Smith has today reaffirmed her support for a super charged home battery program and incentives that make electric vehicles more affordable.

Ms Smith today attended the Solar Citizens EV picnic in Dayboro, which was held to help people in Dickson find out more about home solar and battery systems and electric vehicles.

  • More than 64 percent of homes in Dickson have roof top solar - about double the national average.
  • The number of registered electric vehicles in Moreton Bay Regional Council area doubled in the 2024 calendar year.
  • There are now about 5,000 registered electric vehicles in the Moreton Bay Regional Council area.

Community Independent Candidate for Dickson Ellie Smith said:

“Almost two thirds of homes in Dickson have rooftop solar.

“But their electricity bills are still too high and they’re not getting a good price for the energy they produce.

“If I am elected to Dickson, I will make it my priority to ensure the next government provides more support for solar and home batteries so more homeowners can cut their energy bills.

“This can help households immediately save more than $1,000 a year in energy costs.

“Peter Dutton does not support this immediate energy bill relief, even though it benefits home owners in Dickson.

“Instead, he’s backing a nuclear program that won’t be completed for decades and could cost home owners between $300 billion to $600 billion.”

Ms Smith said she would not support any moves to reverse tax incentives for electric vehicles.

“The number of people driving electric vehicles across our community almost doubled last calendar year.

“Each week more than 70 EVs are registered across our council area.

“I do not support Peter Dutton’s plans to remove tax incentives for people wanting to choose an electric vehicle and make it more expensive to drive  a car.”
