Thanks goes out to emergency and community workers across Dickson

People from communities across Dickson are showing their gratitude and support for emergency and community service workers, volunteers, and first responders who have now begun the clean up and restoration work across the region.

More than 30,000 homes and businesses across the electorate have lost power over the past four days, with around 10,000 still without power.

Many properties have been impacted by fallen trees or branches and storm and flood waters.

With rain easing overnight, electricity crews, QLD SES volunteers, Moreton Bay Council workers, and other emergency responders have been out in force helping to restore services and offer support.

Community service providers, local businesses and community groups such as Samford Support Network, Northwest Group Community Inc and St Johns Community Transport have also been supporting people from across the region.

Community Independent Candidate for Dickson Ellie Smith said:

“Our thanks goes out to all the emergency crews, community service providers, volunteers and first responders who are now out in force helping to get our community back on track.

“Lineworkers, vegetation contractors, and emergency officers from Energex have been working to make the electricity network safe, restore power; and rebuild damaged parts of our local electricity network.

“Workers from Moreton Bay Council and the SES have been on deck in the lead up to Cyclone Alfred, helping to protect homes and business and keep us safe. They’re now helping to clean up debris from the strong winds and intense rain.

“Small businesses, community service providers, and community members have also turned up to provide support.

“Businesses like Epic Travel in Ferny Hills have opened their doors to their neighbours and community members to drop in and charge devices and gain some respite from the weather.

“I'd also like to thank my growing team of volunteers who have been supporting the community with hot meals and donated food deliveries to restock fridges and freezers.

“We've been able to get food drops to more than 100 people just today, with many more homes set for deliveries over the coming days.

“As we assess the damage and begin the recovery we are coordinating those with utes and trailers to support the clean up.

“I urge everyone in the community to stay safe, look after their neighbours and contact my team via our socials if you need support.”
